Mother health during pregnancy

Maternal medicine is the specialty dedicated to medical problems of pregnancy. It meets the increasing need for specialized care in the management of high-risk pregnancies, at a time where pregnancies occur at an older age and therapeutic advances now allow women with chronic conditions to consider pregnancy.

Maternal medicine requires perfect understanding  of the physiology of pregnancy and of its specific pathologies. In addition, pregnancy may affect an array of preexisting medical conditions, and fine knowledge of how these can impact the pregnancy is necessary so as to advocate for the safest strategies of care for both mother and baby. .

Special attention is given to the prevention of pregnancy-specific diseases and to the ongoing health of women after a complicated pregnancy.
